Who do I contact if I have an item that I would like to donate for sale in the Troop 979 auction? Will you come to my house and pick up the item I am donating?

We are always looking for donated items! The “official” item collection day is March 21, the Saturday before the auction, but we would be happy to take your donation any day of the year. Contact auction chairman Ken Doody at (847) 692-2123, to make arrangements. We are interested in items valued at $5 to $500, and all donations are tax-deductible. If you have a minute, look around your garage or basement and find that item that you have always been itching to part with and give Ken a holler. While you're at it, and if you are up for it, ask your friends, neighbors, employers, and businesses that you frequent if they are have items or services they are willing to donate. Be aware though, that there are some things we can't accept as donations. These include: old TVs, large appliances, large furniture, clothing, and anything that can't be transported easily. Contact Ken Doody (847) 692-2123, with any of your donation questions. Troop 979 is a good thing and we could always use some help to continue being a good thing.

Bidding on items makes me hungry. Is there food and drink available for purchase during the auction?

Yes, we have food and drink available for purchase! The Troop 979 Mother’s Club runs the food concession area that offers a wide assortment of good eats including hot dogs, bratwurst, beef sandwiches, hunter's stew, pierogis, chips, and baked goods. All proceeds benefit Troop 979 so come hungry.

How do I pay for all the great stuff I bought at the Troop 979 Auction?

We accept cash or check. When you arrive at the auction make your way to the cashier’s table (just to the right of the auction stage) and tell the nice ladies there that you need a “paddle”. They will gather some info from you and issue a bidding paddle with a number on it. Take your paddle and start bidding and then bid some more. When you are finished bidding for the day bring your numbered paddle back to the cashier’s table and they will review the list of your purchases with you to make sure everything is OK. There are NO additional auction premiums added. You pay your accumulated amount with cash or check and then carry away all your newly acquired treasures.

I bought a lot of stuff at the Troop 979 Auction. Can someone help me load it into my car?

Of course we will help you load your car! Just grab one of the scouts and tell him you need assistance. He will either help you himself or get a whole crew to pitch in. All purchased items need to be removed from the premises by 6 p.m.
